Shower Leak Behind the Wall — Oakleaf
A homeowner in Oakleaf noticed water staining on the wall outside their shower. They'd tried re-caulking the edge twice and it kept coming back. We opened the wall and found the old waterproofing membrane had failed behind the tile, so water was wicking through the substrate every time the shower ran.
Fix
We removed the affected tile, installed new waterproofing board sealed at every seam, and re-tiled with new white subway tile and a hexagon mosaic floor. The leak was sealed at the source, not just at the surface.
Result
The homeowner hasn't seen a drop since. What looked like a caulking problem was a waterproofing failure, and patching over it would have meant more water damage down the road.
